For those who’ve gotten a prescription from their doctor for medication, there is a code on it that makes the doctor or clinic responsible for the medication that is dispensed and that keeps them from selling it.
I mean, this code is pretty awesome. As a doctor I can see where this could be useful to prevent abuse, but I can tell you that I have been on the receiving end of many, many prescription drug prescriptions that have been filled in error. The code allows me to check what is in the prescription, whether it is a controlled substance, what is its side effects, and so forth, and I can then make sure that the prescription is not being sold without the proper prescription codes.
The point here is that you can check all of these things without actually checking the prescription but you also have the option of doing this with just a code. The problem here is that the code has to be written down so you can find it and verify it. I can’t remember the last time I had a prescription filled without the code.
