The Environmental Services Division of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) defines a “community environmental services project” as any “development or improvement project that will affect the quality of the environment in the community.” This definition encompasses “the development or improvement of a physical environment such as planting trees, the construction of irrigation systems, roads, or fire hydrants.
It’s also easy to see how this definition makes sense. Think of your yard as the “physical environment” that will be affected by some environmental services project. You can’t really change the physical environment without affecting the entire community.
It’s a good idea to also discuss the environmental services concept in another post, which I’ll be releasing in a few weeks. But I wouldn’t change the topic without your participation.

Environment is a very broad term and encompasses a lot of different things. The only constant is changes in the environment. You cant really change the physical environment without affecting the entire community.
Environmental services is a broad category of service like utilities and housing. The thing is, we don’t really have a good way of measuring the amount of environmental impact an activity has on the environment. For example, a college campus can be so much more than a classroom for a week.
I think there are two main ways we can deal with this. First, we can measure environmental impact by what happens on our campus and how it affects the surrounding community by looking at the amount of damage that is done to the environment from each activity. We could measure that by looking at the amount of water used, the amount of chemicals used, the amount of energy consumed, and so on. In addition, we could just look at the amount of noise put into the air.
A second way is to look at the amount of water used in the water. We could measure that by looking at this water content in the air. For example, if an activity were to have a water content of 0.2 inches per meter, it would be 1.5 inches per meter of water. If we looked at the intensity of that water content, we could see that it’s actually about 1.5 cubic centimeters per meter of water. In other words, that’s about 1.
In this case we use the amount of water that has been used in a city or town.
